The EuRegionale 2008 project Grünmetropole ("Green metropolis") connects the neighbouring regions of the Euregio Maas-Rhine with a cycle track of about 370 km, the "Grünroute". It reveals the region's appealing cultural and natural areas to the cyclist.
It starts in Behringen in Belgian-Limburg, passes Dutch-Limburg and goes on through the German regions of Heinsberg and Aachen, to finally end in Düren (Germany). Its thematic emphasis is put on the structural changes of a former industrial landscape that has been characterized by the tradition of black coal mining for several decades.
In the Heinsberg Recreational Region, the nature park "Heidenaturpark", which includes the Rodebach valley and the "Teverener Heide" (near Gangelt), and the landscape of the Wurm valley (near Übach-Palenberg) invite you to get an insight into the development of the countryside.
